Adhesives
Adhesives for Jewellery Assembly and Repairs
Choose from jewellers’ epoxy, precision cements and super glue for jewellery assembly and repair work. Epoxy provides a two-part bonding option, precision cements allow controlled application to small components, and super glue offers a quick-setting adhesive for suitable materials. Select an adhesive to suit the surfaces being joined, the working time required and the finished piece.
Choosing an Adhesive for Jewellery Work
Match the adhesive to the materials being joined and the demands of the finished piece. Consider the size and fit of the joint, the time needed to position the components and whether the bond will be visible. Check the product instructions for material compatibility, working time and full cure time before starting.
Preparation and Controlled Application
Dry-fit the components first, then prepare the bonding surfaces as directed by the adhesive manufacturer. Remove grease, dust and polishing residue using a method suitable for the metal, stones and other materials, and allow the surfaces to dry. Browse our cleaners and supplies for preparation and bench cleaning.
For two-part epoxy, follow the specified mixing ratio and mix thoroughly. Apply the amount required for the joint, position the components within the stated working time and support them while the adhesive cures. Initial setting time is not the same as full cure time; allow the recommended cure before handling, finishing or returning the piece to service.
Finishing and Aftercare
Plan the assembly sequence so bonded components are not exposed to later soldering heat. Check the adhesive and component instructions before using solvents, steam or ultrasonic cleaning on the finished piece. For precise placement of small parts, see our tweezers and tongs.
