Choosing a miniature brush

Bristle and hair wheels carry polishing compound, while end and cup brushes provide different ways to reach recessed areas and small surfaces. Brass and steel wire brushes are used for cleaning and brushed finishes. Cotton polishers are suited to small polishing jobs, and texturing brushes create decorative surface finishes.

Matching the brush to the job

Choose the material, diameter and firmness to suit the metal and the finish required. Check that the shank fits your handpiece; unmounted wheels require a compatible mandrel. Use light pressure and follow the brush manufacturer's speed limits. Keep a separate brush for each polishing compound and clean the work between stages to avoid carrying coarse compound into the final polish.
