Choosing an end or cup brush

End brushes concentrate the bristles at the tip for working into recesses and around detailed shapes. Cup brushes spread the bristles across a wider contact area. Choose the shape that gives access to the surface without catching nearby edges or settings.

Bristle firmness and polishing

Soft bristles offer a more flexible contact; stiff bristles give a firmer brushing action. Match the brush to the metal and desired finish, using light pressure. When using polishing compound, keep each brush dedicated to one compound and clean the piece before changing polishing stages.
