Swiss Cut File Numbering System

Files we sell use the Swiss cut scale, The Swiss cut file numbering system ranges from 00 (coarsest) to 4 (finest). Each number corresponds to the density of the teeth per centimeter (or per inch in some cases), with lower numbers indicating coarser files and higher numbers indicating finer files.

  • 00 (Double Nought): Very coarse. Ideal for rapid material removal on soft metals or large surfaces.
  • 0 (Nought): Coarse. Suitable for general-purpose filing.
  • 1: Medium coarse. Good for removing material more precisely.
